Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE) announced today that five new international licensing agents have been signed for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Celebrities Entertainment has been appointed as the exclusive European licensing agent, Vega Brands for South America and Brazil, HW Brands Ltd. in Israel, Infiniss in Korea and Merchantwise Pty. Ltd. in Australia and New Zealand. The announcement was made by Carol Butler, Vice President International Licensing for EPE.
“The demand for Elvis product internationally continues to grow every year,” stated Butler. “With such high interest and activity we’ve found it necessary to expand our international agents. We look forward to working with them all.”
“We are honored to be working with the Elvis Presley brand in Australia. The possibilities with such an iconic image are endless,” said Merchantwise Pty. Ltd. Senior Licensing Manager Con Goutzoulas.
“We are very excited to be representing the Elvis Presley brand exclusively in all of Europe. We look forward to working with the existing licensees, as well as expanding the licensee base with new partners in Europe,” said EPE European representative and Celebrities Entertainment Managing Director Ulf Vespermann.
Much of the increased activity can be attributed to the fact that 2011 marks the 55th anniversary of many Elvis firsts including his first RCA single and national hit “Heartbreak Hotel,” his first album, “Elvis Presley,” his first movie, “Love Me Tender,” and his first television appearances on The Dorsey Brothers’ “Stage Show,” “The Milton Berle Show,” “The Steve Allen Show” and “Ed Sullivan.” Additionally, the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ passing in 2012 will generate many new licensing opportunities.
The Elvis brand currently has 175 licensees worldwide selling products in 122 countries with approximately 7,000+ active skus or products in the marketplace.

When Priscilla Presley received accolades and applause during last night’s Woman of the Year gala, four generations of the family attended. Obviously Priscilla, the radiant queen herself, but also her mom, Ann Boyer; her children, son Navarone Garibaldi and daughter Lisa Marie, with husband Michael; and Priscilla’s granddaughter Riley Keough.
As glittering and glamorous as every Nevada Ballet Theatre Black and White Ball is each year, there were additional magic and miracles at the 27th annual celebration at MGM CityCenter’s Aria. Here are the first red carpet photos of Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s arrival at the reception at Cartier at Crystals. Thanks to contributing photographers Scott Harrison and Erik Kabik for their photographs.
Also at the VIP party: Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil with KSNV entertainment reporter Alicia Jacobs and UFC fighter Frank Mir and his wife Jennifer. (Frank donated an unbelievable VIP UFC package as one of the night’s lead auction items.) Cirque du Soleil performers from Viva Elvis escorted the Presley family throughout the evening. Priscilla told me she’d taken family and friends to see Friday’s performance, and I’ll have her comments about the continuing changes that she’s helping to make in a report tomorrow.

“It was all far more than I had ever expected,” Priscilla told me at the end of the evening. She was presented with a bronze statue of a ballet dancer and a special antique clock from Cartier, plus dozens of floral bouquets from the young ballet dancers.
Priscilla told me she was “absolutely blown away” by the special contemporary ballet piece choreographed by NBT Director James Canfield. “Such professional and polished skills. Incredible. I was mesmerized by the young dancers,” Priscilla said. The well-heeled crowd in black-and-white ensembles obviously agreed, with a standing ovation and nearly 5 minutes of applause.

The actress, beauty and Elvis Presley’s first and only wife was so moved that she decided unexpectedly to make an impromptu speech before her prepared acknowledgments to all who had contributed. Priscilla said that she’d always dreamed of being a dancer, and, as an ever-traveling Air Force brat often danced — sometimes to the music of another Las Vegas legend, Liberace — to fill the time and prevent loneliness.
She also told me: “Ballet was the foundation of my life that got me into the arts, which I still support and encourage to this day. I get so emotional seeing it disappear in education budget cuts. It should be in school’s programs and available to every child to help make their future lives better. All of the arts are so important to youngsters to give them a solid future.”

American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe introduced Priscilla after a video tribute that showed scenes from her numerous TV and film appearances, including Naked Gun with the late Leslie Nielsen and Melrose Place. (Her credits also include Dallas, Touched By an Angel and Dancing With the Stars.) Nigel told a delightful story of how one evening here after watching Viva Elvis, they walked past an Elvis impersonator. Priscilla took off her usual extra-large sunglasses and cloak and surprised him with, “Remember me?!” The impersonator not only didn’t recognize her, but also didn’t know her name, Nigel said!
Vince told the touching story of how in between wives — and homes — Priscilla had welcomed him to her house to stay in the chauffeur’s quarters instead of hotels. Vince at the time was doing business with Priscilla’s companion Marco Garibaldi, Navarone’s father. “I was so nervous meeting her the first time I knocked over the water glass,” Vince laughed. “The second time I was even more nervous and knocked over the wine glass. She wasn’t fazed, and we’re still friends.”
The evening’s highlight was without doubt the students’ extraordinary jazz and modern ballet. Everybody agreed that it was incredible and at a performance level equal to the great ballets of New York. I described it as “breathtakingly beautiful and mind-blowing.” Priscilla said, “It was simply magnificent.”

We also raised more than the $150,000 goal to kick off NBT’s Live Music Fund for when the company moves into the new Performing Arts Center downtown next spring. I emceed the paddle raise, which brought a total of $155,000 to enable the students to have live music instead of recorded tracks for practice, rehearsals and performances. The money, which began with four wonderful donors giving $25,000 apiece, is already a little more than halfway for the first year’s $300,000 budget for musicians and conductors.
Tomorrow, we’ll post all the exciting and intimate photographs from inside the gala, along with our one-on-one chats with Priscilla and Lisa Marie. Robin Leech

Lisa Marie Presley’s publicist has denied a tabloid report claiming the U.S. musician collapsed at her home in England after she lost 55 pounds on a diet.

“It is absolutely and completely untrue,” Presley’s representative told People.com Friday. “The National Enquirer puts Lisa on the cover every few months with manipulated photos and horrendous stories of supposed ‘meltdowns,’ and has since she can remember.”

The 42-year-old singer-songwriter, who is the daughter of rock ‘n’ roll icon Elvis Presley, is working in Los Angeles on her third album, People.com reported.

“She is happy and healthy and working hard,” the representative added. “The rest is absolute garbage. Not a bit of truth to any of it.”

Mark Bego Remembers Lamar Fike

Posted: January 29, 2011 in Uncategorized
Lamar Fike & Mark Bego

Lamar Fike was not a household name per se, but for the last 50 years he has been known as the “bigger than life” founding member of Elvis Presley’s famed entourage, The Memphis Mafia. Back in the days of duck tail haircuts, gold lame suits, and the song “Hound Dog” topping the charts, Lamar was the “right hand man” to “The King of Rock & Roll.”

Lamar lived at Graceland with Elvis, alongside Gladys and Vernon Presley, back in the days when that family was pop culture’s original reality show. There were Cadillacs in the driveway, motorcycles to race, and even Natalie Wood paying a famous Memphis visit, and Lamar was there.

When Elvis Presley was drafted and went off to serve in the Army in Germany, Lamar went along. When Elvis returned to the States, and performed on TV with Frank Sinatra, Lamar was there. And, when the ’70s rolled around, and Elvis was obsessed with becoming a drug enforcement officer, Lamar was there too.

In the time since Elvis died in 1977, Lamar became the prime contributor to the “New York Times” best-selling book on “The King,” Albert Goldman’s blockbuster “Elvis.” Whenever there was an Elvis anniversary date, Lamar would be on the radio, or interviewed on “Larry King.”

In the last years of his life, Lamar Fike lived in Dallas, Texas. It was there that I first met him, and began work on Lamar’s incredibly detailed memoir, “An Uncommon Journey.” I listened for weeks, to tales about meeting Marilyn Monroe, attending parties at Nat King Cole’s house, and witnessing a famous interlude between Elvis and Rock Hudson. I also had the privilege of working on a screenplay about Lamar’s life, “’57 to ’60: One of the Boys.” Although “An Uncommon Journey” still remains unpublished, I will always fondly recall listening to Lamar relive his glory days as part of the Elvis Presley inner circle.

Lamar died on January 21, 2011, after a long illness. At the age of 75, he knew that he lived a full and eventful life. He had the opportunity to be treated as one of the closest friends to rock & roll’s original King, and everything that Lamar did, he did with dramatic style. Lamar Fike, you will be missed.

GLASVEGAS have made light of singer James Allan’s meltdown in 2009… by having T-shirts printed with a special message for the volatile star.
James, 31, worried his bandmates, record company and fans when he went AWOL in 2009 before the Mercury Prize ceremony in London.
Later that year, he had an emotional collapse during the last days of a tour with Kings Of Leon in Chicago.
A bewildered James ended up singing The Carpenters’ Close To You to a goldfish 33 floors up in a Chicago hotel before taking it to the bar and watching TV on the bed with it.
The band’s T-shirts remind the singer of his fragility with the words: “All work and no play makes James a dull boy.”
The message also refers to Jack Nicholson’s paranoid character in The Shining, who types the words “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” thousands of times before losing his grip on reality and attacking his wife with an axe.
James, who says he is okay now and has “cut all ties with the goldfish” reckons his experiences have helped produce a comeback album that will not disappoint fans.

In an interview with this week ‘s NME, he and the band recalled some quirkier moments Stateside, including a meeting with Priscilla Presley, wife of Elvis, at daughter and Glasvegas fan Lisa Marie’s birthday party.
Bandmate Rab admitted: “I tried to make James and Priscilla happen, but her bodyguards, Elvis’s old bodyguards no less, were there.
“She said: ‘Oh, he’s kind of cute.’ There were fluorescent lights and James was all dressed in white, looking like an angel.
“He was glowing.”
After a difficult time in which drummer Caroline McKay quit the band in the middle of writing their second album, Glasgow-born James spoke about his feelings for new Swedish drummer Jonna Lofgren.
He said: “I think I’m overcompensating, by saying, ‘Are you okay? Are you okay?’ “I think it’ll take a long time for me to get to know her. But she’s fascinating, even just visually. And I don’t mean that in a sordid way.”
Rab added: “It must be difficult for someone coming in, whether she’s from Sweden or Scotland, but I guess we feel very protective of her already although it’s only been a month or two. I’ve already threatened to break someone’s legs if he looked at her.”
James, who now dresses in white instead of black at gigs, also spoke about his touching song Daddy’s Gone and the guilt that followed writing such a one-sided account of a real story that hurt some people close to him.
The autobiographical song talks about having an absent father at a young age.
James said: “You can go into it in a negative way and say I know my father felt bad enough about the past.
“But then the number of people who have come up to me and said: ‘That song means a lot to me because it’s my life’ is unbelievable.”
New album Euphoric /// Heartbreak \\\, is out on April 4.

BIM: I dont think LMP will be too pleased with this! And who could blame her!

Bill Miller announced that a new volume of rare and unreleased Johnny Cash tracks, “From Memphis to Hollywood: Bootleg Vol 2” will be available 2/22/11.
The majority of the two-disc set  spends time on Cash’s early career. The first CD will be devoted exclusively to the country legend’s time in Memphis. Among the treasures from Cash’s vault: a radio show hosted by Cash, 11 demos done prior to Cash signing with Sun and seven outtake s from sessions at Sun Studios. Disc two focuses on the star’s tenure Columbia Records from 1958-69. It will include non-album singles, B-sides and outtakes.
Miller calls some of the early Sun demos “stunning. This is Cash unplugged at his earliest. I’ve been a fan for over 40 years, and I’ve never heard anything that grabbed me like these demos did.”
